AfterCall ("we," "us," "our") is a study assistant for students. It helps you capture notes, record lectures, seminars and other sessions, learn with the AI Tutor, and revise with Exam Coach, using AI. This policy explains what information we collect, how it's used, and how you can control it.
What we collect
- Account information: your email address and password (stored as a one-way hash, never in plain text).
- Content you provide: notes you paste or dictate, recordings of lectures, seminars, meetings and calls and their transcripts, documents and photos you upload, your lessons with the AI Tutor (what you type and its replies), and what you give Exam Coach: where and what you're studying, your subjects, topics, study materials and past papers, and your practice answers (and the progress it records).
- Basic usage data: which pages you visit and when, used only to understand overall traffic and product usage — not sold, and not tied to advertising of any kind.
How your content is processed
To do its job, AfterCall sends your content to the following third-party processors:
- Anthropic (Claude): your notes, transcripts, AI Tutor messages, Exam Coach study materials and practice answers are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to be structured, summarized, taught, turned into a study plan or study activities, or marked. Anthropic processes this data under its own API terms and does not use it to train its models.
- Deepgram: if you record or upload a lecture, meeting or call, the audio is sent to Deepgram for transcription.
- YouTube: if you paste a YouTube link, the video's id is sent to YouTube to read that video's own public captions. No video or audio file is downloaded — only the caption text comes back to our server.
How that content actually moves depends on how you captured it: a pasted YouTube link only reads that video's existing captions, nothing is downloaded, and the transcript isn't sent to Claude until you click "Clean my notes"; a photo of a handwritten page is sent to Claude only to read the text off it, then discarded; an uploaded document (PDF, Word, etc.) is read directly on our server, and its text isn't sent to Claude until you actually click "Clean my notes." A document you add to Exam Coach is read the same way, and its text is sent to Claude when you generate a study plan or an activity for that subject. If you paste a link to a past paper on an exam board's website, our server downloads that one file from the board's site and reads it the same way.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share your notes, recordings, or study materials with any other third party, except as required by law.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and all associated data deleted, contact us at the email below and we'll remove it, typically within a few business days. Deleting a note or recording from within the app removes it immediately.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. As with any online service, no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Cookies
We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.
Recording lectures, calls and meetings
AfterCall lets you record lectures, lessons, calls and meetings you're part of. You — not AfterCall — are responsible for making sure everyone being recorded is aware of it and consents, as required by the laws where you and they are located, and for following your school's, college's or university's rules on recording. See our Terms of Service for more on this.
Age and students under 18
AfterCall is built for students at school, college and university. You must be at least 13 years old to use it. If you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission to use AfterCall, and they can contact us at the email below to see or delete your account and its data. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13; if we learn that we have, we'll delete that account and its data.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
